Google Expands Gambling Advertising Policy in the US, to Allow Lottery and Fantasy Sports Ads

Effective July 15, 2024, Google is updating its advertising policy to permit ads for lottery courier services and daily fantasy sports (DFS) in several U.S. states. This significant change opens up new marketing opportunities for these industries, allowing them to reach potential customers through Google's extensive ad network. Specifically, lottery courier services will now be able to advertise in 34 states.

The new policy will enable licensed and certified lottery couriers and fantasy sports operators to advertise on Google's platforms, including search and display ads. This change is expected to benefit the growing online gambling industry in the US, where several states have legalized online lottery and fantasy sports in recent years.

However, the advertisers will be required to meet rigid requirements concerning targeting minors, state laws, etc. Interested advertisers will be required to apply for certification through Google to ensure compliance with the updated guidelines.
